Sorry, I meant pose. Because it seems to be a common pose in many megazine covers now. Don't know why, just the feeling. Hope I got it corret :) Any prize if the answer is right?

i'd say picture 2 will don the cover.
no matter how artistically done, the picture that hits the cover page is always a oh-so-safe headshot, done well enough to attract even passerbys to stop and buy the magazine.
As for my personal fave, it's picture 1. im sure it'll be blown big in the mag as a full page!

personally I like the first one...but I guess for the cover it might be the second one or the third one...ha ha ha...because there are lots of spaces left for the headline of the magazine!!!ha ha ha...

Despite 2 being the choice, the best photo is actually 1 because it has more surrounding space for content. A black title across the top in a bauhaus-esque typeface would, from a typographical and design perspective, look much better! The soft grey/white gradient in the background also has more depth and creates a bit more contrast. >.< Remember, you create more impact with CONTRAST, not maximalism. If I was to be all buddhist and Chinese about it, I'd say that a pebble creates more significant waves in a still stream than a rapid river. ^-^ Little bit of James wisdom(TM) for you there.
P.S. I've got you a little belated bday present from Japan (that's right, I'M BACK!). When are you and Richard free for a catch-up?
